Preparing Schools for Martyn's Law
A Focus on Effective Emergency Communication
It is widely expected that the UK Government is set to introduce the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill, widely known as Martyn’s Law within the next 12 months.
This legislation will apply to a wide range of spaces, including:
Venues with a capacity of 100 or more people (e.g., theatres, concert halls, sports stadiums).
Locations with high footfall, such as shopping centres, places of worship, and public squares.
Educational institutions, including schools and universities.
The Law will require these venues to adopt stringent measures as part of their security operating procedure, and implementing "a clear alert and communication strategy during emergencies” will be a key element of compliance.
